Chairman's Message 2019

It is my privilege to be Chairman of the Home Counties Bowls Association this year, as the Association develops in response to the needs of its member Counties and the changing face of Bowls.

Since its formation in 1970, there have been seven member Counties of the HCBA, namely Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Kent, Oxfordshire, Middlesex, Surrey, and Sussex, The delegates from each County have been looking to the future of Inter-County bowling in this Region and seeking to restructure its programme of competitive bowls and representative matches. Changes are under way to strengthen the ties between Counties and streamline the League and Championship Competitions with rule changes now in place for the 2019/20 season.

A major change is that we are pleased to announce that Bowls Hampshire have agreed to join the HCBA as of 2020, cementing many years of close bowling rivalry and friendship. We welcome all of the bowlers of Hampshire, and look forward to their participation in our expanded programme of activities.

The planning to restructure and integrate the bowling programme for the eight Counties is now well advanced, with 2019 being a year of preparation for the full participation of Hampshire in 2020. As part of that process, it will be my pleasure to host Hampshires 2019 President, Keith Taylor, at our first representative game this year, against my own County Buckinghamshire.

I am confident that with the pressures faced by our bowlers of ever increasing competitions at National, County and Club level, that the steps now in hand by the Home Counties Bowls Association will enhance and complement those activities. The kudos of being the first Champion of all eight Counties will I am sure be an added incentive to the bowlers in the enhanced eight County structure.

I wish all of the teams well in this years Home Counties Leagues, both at Senior and Under 25 levels, and look forward to seeing our usual high level of bowls played with zest and enthusiasm. Above all have fun. To those setting out on the trail to become County's Champions before stepping forward to represent their County in the HCBA Championships, good luck and good fortune in what will be a long campaign.

To my colleagues who are County delegates and give of their time to manage the affairs of the Association, may I offer my personal thanks for their help and forbearance, as we work through the many issues facing us this year.

Finally in a year of great change, please remember to enjoy your sport at Inter-County level, and take every opportunity to make new friends and value those friendships made over many years.

Regards
