In sweltering afternoon heat, last years Champion county entertained rinks from Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Middlesex, Oxfordshire, Sussex and a guest rink from Kent who stood in for Surrey who were unable to be present to another county engagement.

Middlesex had a bad day at the office, losing 7 – 40, which took care of the overall result.

One and a half hours stuck on the M40 was not the ideal preparation for Oxfordshire who arrived 1 minute before the start time and their 17-27 defeat was then followed with another delay on the way home.

Sussex had a close game before losing 18-22, with Berkshire even closer on 19-22.

It was not all bad news for the visiting counties as Buckinghamshire home of this years HCBA Chairman John Lonergan produced their best result, a 19-16 win.

The only HCBA rink remaining was the guesting Kent rink, who questioned the Kent team selectors choices, producing a 22-20 win.

Following the 147-102 Kent victory, it was rumoured that an advert for office staff was doing the rounds in Middlesex.
